Dear Members
Unfortunately, we have to move from our rooms at Osborne as English Heritage require them for their school’s education programme.
The rooms we have used for the last few years, have been designated as ideal for the provision of education visits – from sometime early in the new year. As the rooms will be used predominantly during the day and most likely between September and May, the proposal is that we can make use of these rooms via a booking system (yet to be established) on days when they are not booked and most likely, evenings and weekends without restriction.
In addition to the rooms we currently use, EH will be refurbishing what was the servants dining room, then a picture store and latterly the catering store used as a dumping ground by Elior. It is in the far-right hand corner as you look down to the end of the courtyard from the parking area. This large room will be stripped out, some necessary repairs done to internal fabric and laid out with tables and chairs for education and use by others i.e. us. All at EH expense.
Our rooms will be stripped of furniture, carpets, pictures etc. and replaced with education-based paraphernalia and learning materials, suitable floor coverings and stackable chairs as might be found in classrooms etc.
Some of you may recall that we previously used a first-floor sitting room and adjoining rooms and these will again be made available to us and some furniture could be moved up there. Essentially, we will have the sole use of the first-floor rooms as before, and regular use of the education rooms, large and small, subject to availability and booking.
The trustees have requested a meeting with the territory director to be able to discuss these proposals and also review the current admissions numbers which we are restricted to. We will update members on the outcome of the meeting in the next newsletter.
