Prince Albert - The Gardener

Thirty three people listened to Toby’s talk about Albert, the gardener. We were a ‘trial run’, as Toby is visiting Germany later this month to give this talk. The gardens and grounds at Osborne were somewhere Albert had complete control over; as opposed to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, which were already set out and designed. Albert was very keen on obtaining new plants and seedlings . He obtained two giant redwood saplings, only two years after the species was first introduced into Britain. In 1853 and 1855 he planted them at Osborne to commemorate Queen Victoria’s birthday.
