Visit to Windsor Castle

Our trip to Windsor was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We all felt we would have liked a little more time there, but we got a ‘flavour’ of Windsor Castle. There was an excellent multi - media guide that gave us audio and visual information as we wandered through the State Apartments. We saw some wonderful paintings, including those by Holbein, Bruegel and Reubens, as well as beautiful tapestries. We also saw St.George’s Hall, which took five years to restore and rebuild after the fire in 1992.
The queue for Queen Mary’s Dolls’House was not too long and worth the wait in order to see the miniature royal residence, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. More than 1,500 artists, craftsmen and manufacturers contributed to it. The library contains hundreds of miniature books, especially written by famous authors, including A.A. Milne and Thomas Hardy.
Finally, we just had time to walk through St.George’s Chapel, where eleven monarchs are buried, including Henry VIII, Charles I and Elizabeth II.
