Dear Members,
We have had some beautiful Autumn sunshine during the last few days, but as we move into October, I feel the chilly mornings and darker evenings are on their way.
We enjoyed some very successful events during September. The Quiz night on September 12th was fun. I was going to make up a table with some friends, but at the last moment I was asked to step in as quiz mistress! Some of the questions were very hard and I was quite grateful that I was not having to answer them!

On the 18th September Sarah Burdett gave a very interesting talk on Osborne Royal Naval College, followed by a walk around the grounds to see the remaining buildings. Thirty-four people booked this event and we were able to raise £212 for Friends of Osborne. We were able to see the plunge pool, which was used by the cadets each morning. It would have, of course, been filled with cold water. This is located behind Osborne’s old stable block where DHL is now based.

The Buckingham Palace trip was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The weather was glorious and everyone seems to have had a wonderful time.

Craft Workshops will be held on Friday mornings from 10.30 to 12.30 on the 17th, 24th and 31st October. These will take place in the Education Rooms.
Those of you who visited Osborne over the Christmas period last year will have seen the Christmas trees outside of Petty Officers' Quarters, which Friends of Osborne funded and decorated. This year, we hope to have four trees and will be running a series of craft workshops for those who would like to come along and help produce suitable weatherproof decorations (any ideas welcomed).

The Remembrance Service at Whippingham Church is on November 9th. Friends of Osborne will lay a wreath.
AGM on Monday 24th November at 11.00. Osborne is closed to the public on Mondays so we are able to use The Terrace Restaurant to host this event. We hope that changing it to a morning instead of an evening will enable more members to come along. Victoria Stone, the new Osborne Manager, will give a talk about EH and Osborne before the AGM takes place. This will also be a social event with refreshments and it is an opportunity for members to meet each other and have a chat before we discuss business!
We will be sending out the AGM paperwork soon. Please reply to let us know if you will be attending. If not, we would like you to send in the proxy voting form.
Wreath Making Workshop November 27th. Details and booking forms to follow nearer the time.
Christmas Tree Festival at Whippingham Church – Thursday, 18th December to Sunday, 21st December, 11.00 to 15.00, Sunday, 13.00 to 16.00.
Christmas Carols in The Courtyard on December 12th. Details and booking forms to follow nearer the time.
I collected the beautifully crafted Education Award from Arreton Barns on Monday. The trophy was made by Andy Fortune and is carved from a piece of beech from the grounds of Osborne. The winning school will receive £250 and be able to hold the trophy for a year.

The Library.
A few members have shown an interest in helping in the library. The new library volunteer role is now live on the website and details are below. Members of FoO would need to become EH volunteers but this is not a problem. I have been an Education Volunteer for 10 years and work with groups of children and school parties. Anyone applying would just be working in the library and would not have to commit to anything else.

All gardens and lawns seem to have recovered from the dry summer and are now lush from the early September rains. For those of you who were disappointed not to be able to go on Toby’s Autumn Walk, you can still head on down to Osborne with friends and family and enjoy the beautiful Autumn colours. I may bump into you there!
Best wishes
Allison Rogers
