The influence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on East Cowes and Whippingham

Sarah Burdett will look at the huge impact that Victoria and Albert had on East Cowes and Whippingham.

The talk will be in two parts: the estate developments in Whippingham and then the effect on East Cowes itself, with a coffee break in between.  Sarah was asked to write on the subject to add to the variety of speakers’ notes following the 2019 conference at Osborne on Albert and Victoria. She has that text available if members would like to buy a copy.

Sarah will also briefly include the Naval College as one of the effects of having a redundant stable block seeking a new use as part of the effects of V & A on the town.
