A talk by Toby on the Walled Garden
Thursday 27th October at 10.30 am
Toby, the Head Gardener at Osborne will give a fascinating talk about the Walled Garden. It dates back to the original Osborne House and was built by Robert Pope Blatchford around 1775. It was used by his family to produce fruit and vegetables for his estate. When Albert and Victoria built their new home, they pulled down the original house and took the portico from the original building and added it as an ornate entrance to the walled garden.
It is over twenty years since it opened to the public for the first time. The talk will tell us about the garden’s history, the restoration and what plantings have worked well and those that haven’t.
Toby will talk for about 45 minutes with a chance to ask questions at the end.
Talk begins 10:30 a.m. in the new Education Rooms, off the courtyard.
Cost: £5 (to include coffee and biscuits)
