Peter Jackson, Chairman of the Isle of Wight German Twinning Association, will give a talk on their links with Coburg, the town and its connection to the IOW. Also, what they have done in the past and how they see the future. There will be a section about Victoria and Albert.
Peter advises “I shall look briefly at the idea of town twinning as it has developed since its inception. The obvious rationale of the Isle of Wight being twinned with Coburg is Osborne House, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. We shall look at the various places of historical, cultural and social interest in Coburg with reference to Queen Victoria’s journals and the record of her visits to Coburg, together with her German family connections. We shall look at some successful twinning activities in the past and consider future potential. The whole talk is profusely illustrated with Powerpoint slides.”
This talk will take place in the Education Suite at 11:00 and is free. Please complete and submit the form below if you wish to attend.
