Buckingham Palace Trip Sunday 21st September 2025

After setting off at 6.30am in Wootton, the coach arrived in East Cowes in time to catch the 8.30am ferry.

We arrived in London just before midday and were dropped off near the ticket gates. Our entry time wasn’t until 1.30pm so we all went our separate ways until we could join the queue.

The unguided tour took us round the State Rooms, which included the Ballroom where The King’s Tour Artists exhibition was on public display for the first time. We also saw the new State Portraits of The King and Queen which were on display in the Throne Room.

The tour ended up at the Garden Café on the West Terrace, which looks out over the Palace lawn and lake. The exit took us through the shop, gardens and past the lake.

The walk back towards our coach pick-up was past The Royal Mews which housed the horses, carriages and cars. The Gold State Coach, used at every coronation, was most impressive with four Windsor Grey horses and riders.

The coach left London at about 4.30pm and Kevin, the coach driver got us to Southampton in time for the 7pm ferry back to the Island.

A long day, but very enjoyable and worth getting up early for.
